The Legacy Of The Young Lords & Black Panther Party Continues…

“All these programs satisfy the deep needs of the community but they are not solutions to our problems. That is why we call them survival programs, meaning survival pending revolution. We say that the survival program of the Black Panther Party is like the survival kit of a sailor stranded on a raft. It helps him to sustain himself until he can get completely out of that situation. So the survival programs are not answers or solutions, but they will help us to organize the community around a true analysis and understanding of their situation. When consciousness and understanding is raised to a high level then the community will seize the time and deliver themselves from the boot of their oppressors”
– Huey P. Newton

From Brother Shep – Sunday Nov. 18: Serve the People Day in Coney Island. The Harlem, Brooklyn & Bronx “grassroots based” Peoples Survival Program (P.S.P.) will be returning to Coney Island, Brooklyn on Sunday November 18th to hold a “Serve The People Day” directly inside of the hurricane relief neglected Mermaid Housing Projects.

Not only do far too many of the hurricane disaster survivors in these NYCHA projects and their surrounding areas still NOT have electricity, heat and hot water………..But during our initial “Serve The People Day” this past Monday, we learned first hand that because their cars were destroyed by the storm that elders, children and other traumatized family members in these areas are forced to walk up to 20 and 30 blocks to then stand for hours on refugee camp style FEMA & Red Cross relief lines. Hoping they can somehow get much needed supplies and/or a hot meal to return home with “Before” the government and volunteers shut down for the day in order to “get out of Dodge” before night falls.

Please read the following areas of need and then help whenever & where ever you can; With a knowledge that the PSP has over (5) years of providing these relief & emergency preparedness services “Inside Of The Hood”
